TEARS OF GRATITUDE FOLLOW TRAGEDY
She was only nine years old when the 1985 Mexico City earthquake struck. Northern California television viewers donated enough money for the reconstruction of Brenda Perez Romero’s school. When the new school was dedicated, her tears of gratitude were sincere and powerful beyond description. That moment prompted KGO T.V.’s Rigo Chacon to start a scholarship program for Brenda and some of her fellow students. While the Mexico program continues with help from direct donations, the U.S. chapter of Abrazos and Books thrives and has awarded hundreds of thousand of dollars to young Americans of all ethnic backgrounds.
It shall be the goal of Abrazos and Books to financially assist university bound high school seniors who reside in Santa Clara County, California.
It shall be the policy of Abrazos and Books to select students on merit and need and not on ethnic background. Abrazos and Books shall also endeavor to contribute financially to children here and around the world who are victims of poverty, disability or major catastrophes.
